Teacher of the Week: Orlee Klempner

Meet our teacher of the week (and birthday babe) Orlee Klempner!

From teaching pole, to barre, now Yoga she’s been teaching movement for quite some time. Come birthday sweat with her this week, beginning with her killer triple on Wednesday (4pm Fuse, 5:30pm Sweat ‘n Sculpt, & 8pm Body) and ending with a powerful double on Sunday (4pm Fuse & 5:30pm Sweat ‘n Sculpt).

What first brought you to your mat?
Breaking up with my fiancé three years ago, my father called me and said, we’re going to yoga! He took me to Natasha. The rest is history.

How long have you been practicing?
I did yoga on and off throughout high school. Then life took over and I stepped away from my mat till three years ago.

What is your favorite part about working at SoHo?
My favorite part is feeling like I’m not actually working. I’m really just playing with my friends and family.

Any big plans coming up with workshops, retreats, etc?
A Partner Vinyasa Flow workshop where you use each other to get deeper in poses and create a dance of shapes together. I hold this close to my heart. Before yoga I was a doubles acrobat performer. And a Wine paired with Yoga retreat in 2016 hosted by me and Lolo aka Lauren Ikeda.

Tell us more about Tulum!
I am so excited about this! I will be teaching a couple vinyasa flow classes along with a couple other teachers in Tulum on Amanda Dykann’s retreat 10/29-11/4. Go to amandadykann.com for more info.

What has your role been during SoHo teacher training and how has the experience been?
I have been assisting Natasha in her YTT. My experience has been something I’ve never imagined could be possible. Not only has it been a refresh of education, and some aha moments of new information and hearing it differently, but being open with a beginners mind, I am able to learn still. YTT couldn’t come at a better time, re-reading all the philosophy and standing by such an inspirational woman as I process a heavy break up. She and yoga helped me process this and discover things about me for this new chapter in my life. It’s been hard work, but such a great growing experience as a teacher. Being part of teaching people to be teachers, spreading yoga to spread more yoga has been more magical than I ever imagined it would be. Seeing them grow and bloom in to actual teachers has been a privilege and an honor. To think that I was part of these teachers teaching, still seems so surreal. I have to pinch myself sometimes.

So we know you have a special man in your life, can you tell us more about Lou?
Lou is truly my special man. He comes every where with me. He is just part of the crew. This little man came straight outta Compton, going from rags to riches. He went from eating street trash to being on a raw and organic diet, still with a soft spot for trash. He went from sleeping on the streets with one eye open to sleeping like a log, spread eagle in a full size bed. I would say in my bed, but let’s be real, it’s his bed. He went from being homeless to having countless homes between me and family & friends, where he makes himself at home. Like Miley says, “standing on the couch… Like its my house…” The unconditional love I get from this guy mixed with sass and absolute chilllllll is more than I could ever ask.

What was your first tattoo and your last? What do they mean to you?
First- 6 pointed star with freedom in Hebrew on the back of my neck. I got it when I was 17. My being in the mind has shifted quite a bit since. Back then it was about peace in the Middle East for Jews. Now it is about peace in the Middle East, period. Freedom in Arabic to come!
Last- A gigantic compass, with a mandala design, dream catcher style. There are many paths, but one truth. And that’s what that means.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…
1) I have a sister. I don’t know her. I wish I did.
2) I look normal on the outside, but am super special on the inside. Missing organs, flipped cardiac system (do I feel things backwards? Maybe)
3) I’m a native to LA

What books are at your bedside?
Currently patanjali because of YTT. After that it will be Light On Yoga.

If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Levitate? Not sure it would be anything to be quite honest. Working on accepting me for me.

You’re happiest when?
I find true co-existence.

Personal mantra/ favorite quote
“As the mind, so the person; bondage or liberation is in your own mind.”
